Being a teenager is no joke when you’re transitioning physically, mentally, spiritually, or in general. Society does not make it any less easy for teens which could lead to detriments on physical health, mental health, and how you fundamentally perceive the world. As a victim of depression, I’d like to delve into the influences that play factors in a depression on average.
Hormones
When transitioning into adolescence, it’s safe to understand that teenagers undergo mood swings which are caused by hormonal changes during puberty, which would lead to Bipolar, a mental illness. Hormones also affect physical appearance leading to self-consciousness. The female sex hormone called estrogen, has been linked to depression amongst females. And having acne which is hormonal on both ends, hinders chances of being seen as physically desirable based on social standards implemented upon teenagers.
Stress
Stress is another leading into why teens suffer emotionally and mentally. Stress comes in a plethora of forms such as bullying, tough coursework, peer pressure, fights, etc. These are very damaging and often leave an impact on an adolescent mind. High school is known to be toxic for just that, social standards. You’re judged, mocked, and seen less for circumstantial situations. It can have an impact on your grades, your mood, concentration,
and developing relationships.
How to stay positive and understand YOU ARE 100%!
Exercise is very important when it comes to tackling depression because dopamine is released, which helps your mood, and keeps you in shape with a fresh outlook for the day. Make sure you get enough sleep every night to replenish your energy. It’s always a good idea to be consistent on a healthy diet to make sure you’re getting proper nutrients. Surround yourself with positive influences, focus on your grades, and challenge yourself academically. You’ve got this!
